Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150 will hold its annual Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. Monday, May 26, at Glen Cemetery in Paxton. Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School’s marching band will give a musical tribute. The ceremony immediately follows the Memorial Day parade. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. when it leaves PBL Eastlawn School, 341 E. Center St., and heads toward the cemetery. Marching units will form behind the PBL High School marching band starting at 10 a.m. Organizations such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are invited to participate. Volunteers are needed to lay flags on veterans’ graves at Glen Cemetery on Saturday, May 24. Volunteers are asked to meet at the gazebo at 9 a.m. Also, volunteers are needed to help pick up the flags starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 27.

Happy Mother’s Day
Stamp Out Hunger
Satuday, May 10 the United States Postal Service will be holding their annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. How can you participate? It’s easy!!
All you need do is to place a box or can of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before their letter carrier delivers mail on Saturday. The carrier will do all the rest. The food is taken back to the postal office, sorted, and then delivered to an area food bank or pantry. There it is available for needy families.
What a great way to help out hungry families in our community!
Lisa Marie Presley to perform in Watseka
Lisa Marie Presley will perform next month in Watseka. But if you want to go to the show, don’t wear anything with images of her father or her late ex-husband.
Tickets for the show, scheduled for May 2 at the Watseka Theatre, are $45. There is a separate $150 meet-and-greet session scheduled for after the concert.
Art Show May 10 at the Paxton Civic Center
The annual Ford County Town & Country Amateur Art Show is scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Paxton Civic Center, 601 S. Fall St.
The show is open to non-professional artists and crafters. It is a way for them to have their art work publicly exhibited and professionally judged. The entry deadline is 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 7. Entries must be original work created by an amateur artist within the past year.
Eligible entries may represent any visual art media, including paintings, drawings, printmaking, crafts, sculptures, photography and digital media.
A blue ribbon will be awarded in each age division (elementary, junior high/high school, and adult) in each of the seven mediums to be judged. In addition, a best of show ribbon will be awarded in each division. Judges will provide a public critique of each work immediately following the announcement of the winners.
