The Fireworks display was really nice this year. I really liked some of the new fireworks that appeared to have a design in the middle. Then there was those silvery, sparkerly things which seemed to move from side to side. We watched from the country road just east of town and north of Pells and the view is always spectacular. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this a great show…..

Celebrating Independence Day
As we barbecue our steaks and enjoy the day off ( hopefully with loads of sunshine ), lets all take some time to reflect on the meaning of this Holiday and share this with our children and others. We all know this is the day we declared our independence from Britain. But how often do we really reflect on all that this led to? Or the sacrifices ? It is because of the declaration that we became a New and FREE nation. Founded on principles that were NOT the norm elsewhere on the planet. It gave us our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Just working on the draft of the declaration led Ben Franklin to say;
We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.
The resulting war led to the loss of countless lives of Men, women, and children. All willing to fight and die for those freedoms…
We have so much to be thankful for in this Country and it started with this Document and the willingness to stand against Tyranny to achieve Liberty. And to this day we still are a shining beacon to others who would fight for their own freedom.
So have a fun holiday, stay safe, and send prayers or well wishes to our warriors who cant make it to the cookout.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Ben Franklin
More cool Qoutes…..
A Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference.
All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.
predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state.
Thomas Jefferson
Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.
Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth.
Our defense is in the preservation of the spirit which prizes liberty as a heritage of all men, in all lands, everywhere. Destroy this spirit and you have planted the seeds of despotism around your own doors.
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
Abraham Lincoln

Shopping Local IS BETTER
Kirchners Building Supplies vs Lowes … I try to shop local as much as possible, but when I have alot of things to get I FOOLISHLY thought that going to Champaign would save us some $$$$$$. Lowes did not Have the selections KIRCHNERS DID, Lowes did not have it in stock (3-4 weeks to order) KIRCHNERS DID. In addition to this finding sales staff was indeeed a JOKE without a punchline.
Now, lets also concider Mileage. It would take most of us would 2-4 gallons of gasoline roundtrip =$14 + that nasty Champaign sales taxe of arould 7%. so if we were to spend $200 it would cost us $28 and 3 hours of our day.
But here is the real deal the folks at Kirchners go out of their way to help you figure things out. They are friendly and they load the stuff if you need it. In addition we pay less for city tax and that money goes to help “OUR COMMUNITY”
SHOP LOCAL; SAVE TIME, SAVE MONEY, HELP YOUR COMMUNITY!!!!
Be Back Soon
We haven’t been able to accomplish much with any new scripts or web layouts due to extremely important family issues that needed attending. We’re taking a breather before leaping back into yourtown2 and the weblog.
We hope everyone enjoyed Father’s Day and the last days of Spring.
Conflicting Messages: Gas Prices & What to Drive When
Today I saw a sticker that said “Gas Prices Are Too High”. Simple & to the point; however this wonderful little sticker was adhered to a large Tundra pick up truck. The Tundra was not hauling anything, and from the look of it’s bed, it hasn’t been used for hauling anything that would necessitate the need for a pickup or any truck of any sort.
Here’s the issue. The gentleman acknowledges the gas prices are too high, and instead of driving a smaller vehicle to get from point A to point B, he’s driving his big Tundra pickup. Now, don’t get me wrong I absolutely adore and love big, giant pickups. For me the dream is a Dodge Ram 3500 dual cab with full 8foot bed; and I can definitely appreciate the truck lover wanting to drive his truck. However, if the gas price is high enough that you’re putting the above sticker on your beloved pickup; logic would dictate that unless you’re hauling a major load that absolutely cannot be handled by a smaller car, then you should not be driving said pickup truck.
Here’s the way I see it. If you can only afford one vehicle, buy the car. You can have items that won’t fit in it delivered; some charge a delivery fee & others don’t. In the long run, you’ll save a lot of money on gas, and you don’t have to lug that brand new TV or appliance across the lawn & up the stairs into your home. If you’re one of the lucky ones that can afford more than one vehicle, try using each one for what they were built for. Let’s say for instance you’re just going to work, use the smallest vehicle. If you’re parents of a child(ren) and need more room, try the old fashioned type station wagon(they’re a whole lot cooler that what they used to be), then the mini-van. Use your pickups for hauling & construction/landscaping-type jobs.
We all know that gas is too high. We all know that we’re constantly on the receiving end of the excuses behind the outrageous prices at the pump. Many of us do what we can to save money & save fuel. Both actually help the environment.
I’m done with the soap box>>>> who’s next???
