Operation Bright Star
Operation Bright Star; As many of you may know Mrs Warnick & her family have moved. However, the many volunteers of the Operation Bright Star project plan to keep the program alive. In addition, according to a recent chat with Kim Evans, Mrs Warnicks wants to stay involved and actually hopes to visit Paxton this Holiday season to help with the Program. Many of the volunnteers and folks who donate gifts are hoping to find “Storage Space” so that gifts and other items for the Holiday s can be purchase throughout the year. This has lots of advantages. Do you have “Space” or possibly no someone who does??
Please if you have ideas, doantions, time, space, anything let us know you can email Earthsong or Heid at nrk@yourtown2.com
Another Example of Paxton’s Caring Community
I met a wonderful lady at the Food Pantry, this morning. She was helping with the Rummage sale and the two of us had a lovely conversation. Her name is Nancy, and we learned that we share an interest in sewing.
During our chat, I learned she is sewing pillowcases for a Sunday school class from one of the churches in town. Once the pillowcases are done, the children will give them to a nursing home in town. I must say, I meant to ask which church & nursing home, but I forgot to. It is such a treat to know that there are those who will give the gift of time & skill wrought with love even in an age of commercial technology.
PBL Food Pantry – Still Needs Help
It’s been too long since I last visited the PBL Food Pantry and spoken with Millie. She is the backbone of the PBL Food Pantry and she needs all the help we can give her as a community. She has always greeted me with open arms. The first time was when I first moved to Paxton almost 9years ago and needed assistance. The PBL Food Pantry & Millie were there for me, and now I want to be there for them.
During our visit, I learned from Millie that four new families came in last Saturday and the number of those who need assistance continues to increase. I asked Millie what does the Food Pantry need the most. Following is a list of those items:
1. Canned Tuna, Chicken, Ham
2. Ground Beef
3. Ground Pork
4. Hamburger Helper, Chicken Helper, Tuna Helper
5. Rice: Large & small bags – Large & small boxes
6. Peanut Butter
Millie and those who volunteer at the Food Pantry will always need donations. Those donations of food, money, and items for the periodic rummage sale can be brought in on Thursdays & Saturdays 9am-12pm. During the other days of the week you can call 217-379-9128; don’t be afraid to leave a message. Millie or one of the other volunteers will call you back.
Survey results
A total of 45 votes for the survey of what you think would be good use for the old County Jail building. 4 undecided, 10 for a Bed/Breakfast. 14 votes for a Museum for the county, and with 17 votes the winner is a restuarant. So, when can we start construction. I actually think this idea would work. There is a good deal of people going in and out for various reasons and with the many County employees right next door, it should have a decent chance at sucess. They could create a jailhouse motif with Bars on the windows, waiters/ waitresses as Jail guards a Warden for the cook etc. etc. This actually turned out to be alot of fun. So now what shall we do for our next survey?????
It’s That Time Of The Year!!
The Paxton Church of Christ at 400 W. Ottawa is having their clothing/miscellaneous drive April 8 and 9 starting at 9:00 am each day at the church. This is a wonderful program for the people of our community and all items are free. If you would like to help with donations, you can drop off items at the church or call 841-0068 for pick up. And if you would like to help with time, I know it would be much appreciated!
