Whats new in the world
Happy Fourth of July!
We hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July!
Here’s a list of events going on in Paxton:
Fun run/walk, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, at 8 a.m. on the south side of Pells Park, with a 100-meter “diaper dash” for children 8 or younger, an 800-meter run for children 12 or younger and a 5K run/walk for people of all ages. Breakfast, 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., the American Legion building across from park. Flea market opens at 9 a.m. Car show registration, 9 a.m. to noon. Community worship service at 9:45 a.m., with a community choir. Also: Antique tractor show, children’s parade, face painting, horseshoe tournament, kiddie tractor pull, numerous food stands, a preschool penny scramble and children’s county fair games (Paxton-Buckley-Loda High cheerleaders will assist with games and face painting). “Blessing of the bikes” kicks off bike parade at 11:30 a.m. The Back Paiges band perform from noon to 2 p.m. at historic pavilion. Fireworks sponsored by city at 9 p.m., Memorial Field on Paxton’s east side.

Honoring Our Veterans
It was an absolutely perfect day for being outside. Today, many Paxton residents started their day at Glen Cemetary to place Flags on the graves of all the Veterans. Most folks in town have done this for decades and it was wonderful to see everyone young and old helping out and having fun. Many of these volunteers from the American Legion Auxiliary post went on to distribute Poppies around town. Quite a busy morning for everyone. Thank you all for supporting our Veterans. From There we went out to the Memorial sign and raised the P.O.W./M.I.A. Flag and did some clean up. From there on to Union Street where we placed Flags down the entire 300 blk of N. Union and Some of E. Pine St. Just our way Paying our respect to the Men and Women of The Armed Forces who served this Nation throughout our history. Though we forgot to take out camera out to Glen Cemetary we did get some photo’s pf the Memorial sign which you can see here
Glen and Ruth, while taking some photo’s I met a couple from the Chicago area who were visiting Paxton. Avery nice coupl who were in town participating in something called Geo- casting ( I think lol) It’s like a treasure hunt. You get the coordinents ( and spell check lol) from a web site and you have to find the Items which are sometimes in the wildest places. When you find the little container you open it and sign the log insde and proceed to the next item. Anyway it was nice to meet you folks and I wish you well in your journeys.
Water Cloudy but no worries
Your water may look a little or maybe even alot cloudy, this is due to the fire hydrants being flushed. the water is SAFE.
Reminder: Paxton’s Arbor Day Tree Dedication
Paxton’s annual Arbor Day observance and tree dedication ceremony will be at 7:30 a.m. this morning at the Scout Hut. A tree will be dedicated in honor of Ralph Schimanski.
Mail carriers to collect food donations on May 12
Saturday, May 12 our mail carriers will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items. The food items will be donated to local food pantries. Please leave your donation next to your mailboxes prior to the time of your regular mail delivery.
Non-perishable items only!!! These include canned soup, canned vegetables, cereals, pasta, boxed dinners such as Hamburger Helper.
Last year, nation wide the USPS collected over 70 million pounds of food that was donated to food pantries. This is a small thing we can all do to help our local food pantries!
